The Department of Public Affairs is run by Jeannine F. LaRue who also oversees the offices of State and Federal Relations.
The Office of State Relations concentrates on communicating the university's policy positions to the Office of the Governor and his cabinet as well as the state legislature.
The Office of Federal Relations works with the New Jersey congressional delegation and the national associations of higher education—especially the Association of American Universities (AAU) and the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges (NASULGC).
The Department of Public Affairs serves as the university's liaison and ambassador connecting our three campuses and the governmental, corporate, and nonprofit communities. This department interacts with elected and appointed officials on all levels of government on behalf of the university's faculty, staff, students, and alumni.
The department's staff informs civic, community, and business leaders about university programs and the benefits of these programs to their goals and objectives. The university's strategic plan for relationship building with mayors, council members, county freeholders, and county executive directors evolves out of the Department of Public Affairs.
Public Affairs staff handle both internal and external inquiries relative to the university's position on legislation, community issues, and corporate interests as well as manage demonstrable impacts in Rutgers' access to state and federal research, outreach, and education funding opportunities.
